COURSE TITLE: BASIC OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH (BOSH)
COURSE TYPE: MANDATORY PRESCRIBED COURSE FOR SAFETY OFFICER 2 (SO2)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: forty (40)-hour Basic Occupational Safety and Health Training for Safety Officers (2) is a mandatory training course pursuant to the provisions of Republic Act No. 11058 and DOLE Department Order 198 s. 2018. It is designed to impart knowledge and skills on basic concepts and principles of occupational safety and health in order to enable safety officers to implement their respective company’s safety and health program.
GENERAL COURSE OBJECTIVE: To increase the number of competent OSH personnel qualified to carry-out the provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS) thereby promote and maintain safe and healthy workplace in different industries.
1. Have a good understanding of COVID-19, its nature, how it is transmitted, symptoms, vulnerable population, and measures on how to minimize the risk of infection in the workplace as well as the applicable government rules and regulations.
2. Have the capability to recognize, identify and evaluate existing and potential occupational hazards and recommend a systematic approach for their prevention and control.
3. Have a working knowledge of Philippine Occupational Safety and Health Standards, RA 11058 and its IRR DO 198-18.
4. Be able to develop a basic safety program for their organizations.
5. Have a better understanding of their roles as well as the scope and mission of their safety function in the overall management of the OSH program.
6. Satisfy the requirements for recognition as Safety Officer 2 under RA No. 11058, DOLE D.O. 198-18, D. O. No. 16 of the Department of Labor and Employment.
7. Be able to satisfy the training requirements (among others) for accreditation as safety practitioners by the Department of Labor and Employment.
▪ Face to face training (lectures, discussions, Q&A, workshops, tabletop exercises, video presentations, site inspection, etc.)
▪ Webinar (complemented by video presentations, virtual situations, and Q&A through chat, email, etc.)
▪ Self-directed training (WSO Learning Management System) - trainee learns at his own pace and provided virtual situations/sites required for JHA and inspections
NOTE: All three methods of training are concluded and completed with a final exam with an 80% passing mark.

NOTE: Completion of the course is required by DOLE/OSHC for the appointment of Safety Officer 2 in the place of employment and a pre-requisite for accreditation as OSH practitioner.
